Michelle Branch no longer faces a domestic assault charge against her husband Patrick Carney.
PEOPLE confirmed on Thursday that Tennessee authorities decided to drop the charge on Wednesday, following the August 11 arrest of the “Everywhere” singer.
The following day, the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to PEOPLE that Branch, 39, had been arrested and charged with domestic battery after slapping Carney at the couple’s Nashville home.
Hours earlier, the singer-songwriter had tweeted and deleted a note that said the Black Keys drummer cheated on her while she was at home with her 6-month-old baby.

Branch was later released on $1,000 bond and on August 11 announced that she and Carney were separating. She filed for divorce the next day.
A representative for Carney and an attorney for Branch did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment regarding the prosecution’s dismissal.

Announcing her split from Carney, 42, after three years of marriage, Branch told PEOPLE in a statement, “To say I’m totally devastated doesn’t even come close to describing how I feel about myself and my family.”
“The rug has been completely pulled out from under me and now I need to figure out how to move forward,” he added. “With such young children, I ask for privacy and kindness.”

In her divorce filing, Branch cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. The documents state that “the parties are no longer able to resume the marital relationship and live together as husband and wife.”
The singer also asked to be named the primary residential father of the couple’s son Rhys, 4, and daughter Willie, 6 months, and asked that Carney be given “reasonable parental time privileges” while paying child support.
The documents list the couple’s separation date as August 11, the same day Branch announced the split.

The musicians tied the knot at the Marigny Opera House in New Orleans in April 2019 in front of friends and family, including their son Rhys and Branch’s 17-year-old daughter Owen, from her first marriage to bassist Teddy Landau, which ended in 2014. after 10 years.
Carney was previously married to Denise Grollmus from 2007 to 2009 and Emily Ward from 2012 to 2016.
The Black Keys are currently on tour in support of their 11th album, Dropout Boogiewhich was released in May.
